Saturday Evening Djembe Drumming
Saturday evenings workshop was jammed packed full of beginners who really embraced learning the djembe with gusto!
We were really stretching our skills with both left and right hand whilst learning the basic technique bass, tone and slap with increasing degrees of tempo!
Not so easy as just when you think your hands and brain have mastered it, you look down to find your hands are frozen and suspended into blurry panic! It’s best at this stage to just ignore your brain and go back to trusting your body and muscle memory to ‘feel the rhythm’ again. Before long it flows back into the groove, well almost 🙂
Great fun and plenty of laughs along the way. Clapping along with Oury as we all learn together to play th West African easy rhythm named Yankedee. It is, says Oury, from the reggae family of rhythms.
Bass Bass Tone Tone Bass Bass Clap! This is how its done!
